I had the Harley TLE sidecar on a 97 EG standard. It was fun but also had some drawbacks. I.E. a rear tire every 5K. They bounce up when you don't have a passenger. I put about 50 lbs of sand bags in to stop that. When you drive it,(yes I said Drive) you use your whole upper body.
They handle like a sportscar. you can lift it off the ground and balance going down the road. FUN. Good luck.
I've never driven a bike with one, but saw a Heritage with one the other day and it looked SWEET. It seems like it could be awkward to drive, but who knows..not me.
Been looking at Champion and California sidecars. Both look good and about the same price. Followed a bike with a sidecar on 260 outside of Payson AZ sunday and he was moving. Didn't seem to have any problem on the curves at all. Noticed some body english on right hand curve, but not bad. Never could get close enough to see what kind of bike or sidecar it was.
What it the Harley TLE, haven't heard of that one.
Thinking about getting a sidecar for my Ultra. Anybody use one, had one?
Suggestions on brand? Likes, dislikes?
Thanks
My Uncle was part owner of California Sidecar back in the 80's. I traded his partner my 66' Chevy pickup for a Suzuki GS750 with matching sidecar. Rode it for one day, came back and told them take that damn side car off!! Very akward for me, did not like it, especially in traffic.
I've thought about sidecars for some time. I'll be watching this thread to see the comments you get. There is a national sidecar forum. I forget the web address but do a search on google for sidecars and you should find it.
I checked into the harley sidecar. To buy one is about $7 grand plus 8 hours labor. The sidecar comes with everything you will need. I have found out that it is very important to ensure that the sidecar in tracking appropriately when installed. There are several accessories to add on.
Hard to handle, takes more power and gas, hard on back tires. I have a friend that has one because he can't ride otherwise because of an injury. He says its better than not being able to ride, but it is notas goodas riding on two wheels.
Last time this subject came up I got flamed pretty good for expressing an opinion, so I will say no more.
i kinda dig the old bassboat/bumpercar looking fiberglass trikes that i have seen over the years. i would expect them to handle better than a sidecar as well.
