unions have good and bad points. I belong to a union, and I detest the fact that a lot of my dues money goes to help elect the obama's and clinton's that have almost destroyed a lot of union jobs , lets take the keystone pipeline, how many union pipe welders would that employ, yet their boy obama has held that up for years. what about union coal miners?
I think a lot of the rank and file members feel this way, but the union management cares only about their power, and the only thing the want from the membership is the dues money.
Yeah, traditionally Unions support Democrats, I remember my Father telling me "the Democrats are the Party of the working man"...well, maybe then but no more. And it bugs me too that my Union gives to these candidates through the PAC, they've already come out in support of Clinton. But of all the Union brothers and sisters I stay in touch with I'll bet 80% are voting for Trump, they're not stupid. They realize if the Country continues to decline they'll eventually be no productive jobs for anyone, we'll all be fighting for McDonalds jobs! All the best...
I agree. Work Union, live better. All the anti union bull I'm reading here makes me ill. The people spewing this nonsense forget that the 40 hr week, overtime pay,and much of the labor laws we take for granted were hard fought and won by unions. The employers didn't give these things out of the goodness of their hearts. Non Union shops will pay a semi decent wage to stop their employees from going to UNION JOBS. So,if your making decent money at your non union job,THANK A UNION. And yes I am a proud member of the IAM.
Great point...I remember YEARS ago I was a Certified Welder, worked in a shop in Nassau County. The Sheet Metal Workers Union was trying to get in and the owner of the Co. was fighting like hell to keep them out. Strangely enough (LOL) our salaries got better, we got a dental plan, all an effort to keep out the Union. I eventually left but the Union did win. The owner had the election in Court for over 2 years before he finally lost the case and had to accept the Union. I ran into the owner of the Company years later, the Company (a Defense Contractor) eventually closed due to cuts in the Defense Industry. I asked Mr. S about the Union, if they had any impact on the Company closing. He said "not at all, they were always a pleasure to work with and were very fair with our Company", I was happy to hear that as I had been on the Organizing Committee before I left and had a lot of friends in that Company.
