Default Buying Advice

Looking to buy a new 883 Iron from a dealer in East Texas. Any advice would be appreciated. How much do they bargain down? Anyone try shopping out of state for a good deal?

883's are cheap as chips on Craigslist. If you're looking for a good deal, buy one of those.

Check dream machines in Dallas for a couple year old one. If you want new for sure check Adam Smith in Sherman.

They bargain down exactly as much as you convince them to.

The only advice that I can give you is; Forget all about the 883 and try to find yourself a nice used Streetbob or Lowrider. You'll be waaaaaaay happier in the end.

I'll second dream machines in DFW and second go for a dynamic as well. Lone star is a small volume dealer and grey don't deal much, roughneck will be a bit better as they're an Adam Smith dealer and between him and his brother they own 7 dealerships so they've got more volume moving and don't try to make the years commission on one sale.

But buying a used 96" 6spd dyna will suit you better in the end. You'll pay the same money or close to it and in 3-4 years it'll worth almost what you paid for it where as you'll have to give the 883 away when you decide to upgrade.

as most people only have them a yr or two before wanting a bigger bike there should be plenty of good low mile used ones around...

This is actually very good advice. Sportsters are nice, but a nice Softail or Dyna will likely end up being a much more pleasing bike after you have been riding for a short time. The Lowrider is essentially a Sportster on steroids, with all the good characteristics of a Sportster plus greater power and stability on the highway.

Nothing against Sportsters; I really liked mine. But I upgraded after 18 months to a Fat Boy and have never looked back.

If you end up buying new:
1) know your prices of what you plan to buy
2) shop several dealers
3) get the out-the-door price (no need to worry how they get there)
4) sometimes dealers will give you a better deal if you finance - even if you plan to pay cash, get the lower price on financing, pay off the first month and improve your credit rating.
5) try to get some additional benefits: 1,000/5,000 services thrown in, extended warranties, % off on parts & install services, free t-shirts....

I got a quote for a new bike back in 2014 from Paris Harley and they were actually cheaper than my dealer in Oklahoma. Might be worth checking with them.
