Not out to bash anything but like most, I suppose, I'm always skeptical of change.
The TC is by now, a known quantity and, aside from some tapping which is commonly cured by installing a $15 set of brass bushings, it seems to be a pretty good engine and one you can upgrade the performance of by a number of means if you're so inclined.
What about the M8 ? Is this the quintessential EPA pacifier that marks the end of performance enhancement at some expense to emissions? Is what you get, what you keep ? Is replacing stock rockers an instant given ?
Ingenuity will prevail, we all know that, but for the time being might the adaptable TC 103 still be king of the hill ?
Again, I'm not out to pee all over the M8 but I think this might make for an interesting discussion at least until M8 mods start happening.

The MOCO has redesigned the rocker assemblies on the M8 to eliminate the shafts rocking back & forth... they're flat on the ends & the bolts go right through them.
Wonder why they did that?

My 17 is quiet as a church mouse compared to my 11 even when good an hot. My 11 when hot would sound like it was gonna rattle itself apart even though I knew it wasnt I like my M8.
After 50 years of riding bikes with straight pipes I can enlighten you on a scientific fact. Every year motorcycles get quieter and quieter. I can't hardly hear my RKC. My advice don't chase progress, just sit back and wait.
We went through this crap back in 06 when the brand new TC 96 came out. People were saying the same thing about the 88s, that a built 95 would out run the snot out of the new 96 engines. The big difference between then and now is that dang EPA crap.
The M8 started testing in 2005 with 1.5 million miles on the test mules. It was the most tested and researched engine in H-D history.
It's all going to boil down to the build quality from the assembly line. Harley builds bikes on Monday & Friday & I was lucky enough to get a couple of them. I sold one & kept the other & fixed a lot of factory f-ups that never should have been......
