Take the bracket to a hardware store or Lowes and find a bolt that fits.

What is best for you? Run to weld shop or order? Minimum on a weld is what, $40 and up?
Hell, the bolt you match up at the hardware store, as Izzo suggested.

When you bolt buying, make sure you get a grade 5 or 8 bolt

IF you're gonna try to travel, might be time to go over the whole thing with wrenches and check/tighten everything you can reach, have a good look at wiring, cable ends, and like that.

Even if ya have to leave it home, that still beats stuck by the side of the road half way to nowhere. Especially with an older bike where the Hog Shop won't have parts.

That bracket looks like it has been welded before and broke at the weld. Might want to reinforce it if you decide to fix it.

As stated above just go to Home depot or Lowes with the bracket and find a bolt that fits and get a self locking nut to work with it. Also as OlAndrew stated go over your bike and check everything. Loctite is your friend!

Probably too late to help, but the HD part # for that Hitachi starter bracket is 31479-83. That crosses to the J&P part # 380-845. If that is the J&P part in your pics, it will fit. Looks like J&P made a mistake.

Also, there should be a flat washer between the bracket and mounting hole on the tranny case. If the washer isn't there it will stress the bracket and that could've been what led to the original break, especially if the starter through bolts were ever loose.
