Now that we got that out of the way, I have a question about accelerating. Some people say you're supposed to turn the throttle, but then others say you twist your wrist. Which is it? I haven't accelerated much in the year I've been riding, I've been focusing on my braking. But now I'd like to develop this skill.
If you rode bicycles as a kid, you've been counter steering almost your whole life. Don't think about it, just do it.
This is not true. Countersteering a motorcycle is significantly different from riding a bicycle.
You don't counter steer a bicycle. And you don't counter steer the motorcycle below 10 mph. How fast did you go on your bicycle as a kid?
Basically, you steer a bicycle and you counter-steer a motorcycle. In fact that is the problem (if there is a problem). Many motorcycle drivers try to drive the motorcycle like a bicycle.
Yes, everything looks simple now but that is testimony to the multitudes of good information shared by many different posters!

Twist your wrist side to side or back and forth?
In actuality, a lot of how you twist or turn the throttle depends on the angle of your wrist to the handlebars, combined with the rake angle of the front fork. To a somewhat lesser degrees the air pressure of the front vs rear tire comes into play. And don't forget to practice counter throttle, that's how you slow the engine down.
And yeah, you do counter steer a bicycle. Suddenly the OP is an expert. .....?...
Wrong...you do countersteer a bicycle. Geeezzz!!! Whats it take to get such a simple thing through peoples heads. By some of these questions some should just park the bikes before they kill themselves or one of us.
