Question Tour Pack info

While shopping around for a used tour pack, for my '04 Road King, I need a little help. I know nothing about T.Packs. I see many descriptions that include the model nomenclature of the bike, i.e: "FLHTC, FLHR tour pack." Aren't they pretty much interchanable? One size fits all, with maybe a little modification? Or do I need to be careful what I buy? I already have a 2-up mounting plate etc. Thanks for any education.

I would ask this question in the Touring section.

I'm not sure which Tour Paks will fit but I think most of the differences amongst the models will be lighting, speakers, antenna mounts, and luggage rack. You might use one of the part finders to find out about differences.

Also look at the "luggage box" bottom.

Generally Tour Paks mount universally to a bracket. The bracket is specific to docking hardware which is specific to your bike.

First step would be to find out which docking hardware is available for your bike that supports a bracket for a Tour Pack, then buy the bracket, then the Tour Pack.

Hope this helps.

1. Your bike will need a "4 point docking kit". All Harley compatible tour paks will mount with the required mounting bracket.
2. I prefer the king size, you can never have too much space. I would never go below a chopped size in any case.
3. You can buy after market or Harley, quality is always better with Harley on TP's.
4. The parts you need are the TP, passenger pad, mounting bracket, lock, I recommend a liner, latches. You might get lucky and find a used one for sale in the right color on Ebay etc. I found one for my cvo SG for $850 set up, it would have cost me close to $2000 to do it from scratch.

Check with your local independent shop. Their are a lot of folks who took them off EGs going for the Street Glide look.

You might get one at a great price like a friend of mine did.

There are many combinations for adaptable tour pack trunks to mounting plates. The mounting plate to bike is either a fixed mounting system or a detachable/ on off system. Your choice... The mounting system you decide on is specific to your bikes model year. Looks like that's already in place.
