Following the events at Sturgis this year, I am heading into Yellowstone National Park. Was wondering if anyone experienced a herd of elk or buffalo, etc. crossing in front of or around their scoot.
Would be interested in reading of your experiences through the park and of course TIPS. Where did you enter and exit? Spend a night in the park?
Iwent last year and we followed a big bull bison down a road for a while...but it wasnt no big deal as soon as no traffic coming we zipped right passed him and on down the road we went.

dang, that is a big bull. Noticed your jackets, was it cold?
Make sure you go into the Old Faithful Lodge. Built in 1905 I think. Was there for the second time this past September. Have plenty of photos and places and routes that shouldnt be missed. Live outside of Baltimore. If you want to see them and talk about your trip, let me know.
Yellowstone is great and if you are not from the West you will see plenty of Bison and Elk as traffic comes to a stop. Depending on your route if you head northwest Ennis MT is a nice place to stay and offers some great flyfishing excursions. Heading south, Jackson Hole is a nice place to stay as well...easy place to stay while you catch up on laundry etc. If you have time, the ride from Jackson Hole to Idaho Falls is a great ride as well. You climb over a pass and drop into rolling hills...two lane roads. There is also the Cody to Billings ride......**** you're going to have to quit your job or make many trips......You will love it.
Go during tourist season and people watch. [8D] Too dang many people, too dang many RVs. And this was in 1981. Beautiful scenery when you could get the people out of the way to see it.
I cadged a spot to toss my bag from whoever I happened to meet during the day. Usually paid 'em back by tossing something in the pot for the evening meal. Oh, park rangers got no sense of humor when you're trying to catch a fish for supper and you ain't paid for a license.
Definitely worth seeing, but it really helps if you're the type who can tune out the distractions and see it through the mind's eye as it might've been 100 - 200years ago.
On your way from Sturgis, take US14A up through the Big Horns. Beautiful country, fewer people.

Here's a pic that billnourse snapped as we were going through Yellowstone last summer. It passed within a few feet of us.
Just be ready to stop at any time, because folks will just slam on the brakes and stop in the middle of the road if they see anything.
video still of our ride through a herd, that buffalo was about 20 feet away, the herd was blocking the road, it took us about 30 minutes to pass through.
