7 grand should get you a nice bike for what you are looking for. Personally, I would get a carbed model.
I have a total of $8,000 in my 2004 Heritage. My bike was bone stock when I bought it.
That includes, the custom paint, and Samson pipes, bars, lots of small things. Doing all your own work, will save you assloads of cash.

05 Heritage less than 10K miles $7200

05 Superglide Custom less than 20K miles $6K

06 Streetbob 15K miles $5900

06 WG 27K miles $6500

08 Superglide custom less than 3K miles $7500

02 Fatboy 55oo mile $7800

06 Dyna Low with 6500 miles $7900

Well, I might be a bit bias but even though all these bikes are priced right, I'd check out the 02 Fatboy. Keep in mind that 2002 was the last year of forged cranks and Timpken bearings. Btw, I bought my 02 Fatboy in 2011 with 8500 miles for $7500. JMO

Added: Mine is also pearl white.

I'm 52. My first bike was a Yamaha Trail 70. Currently own a ZRX1200R and a R1. Done many track days. Rode the zrx non-stop to Ottawa ON and to Charleston SC from VA (separate trips 500+ miles each). Never rode a Harley... YET

Winter time is a private buyers market. Craigslist will be your best friend lol. Sellers asking 9500-11k will take 7k in a heat beat. I usually buy and resell a few bikes around this year simply because of the desperation of sellers

If you're patient you can find a sweet bike for 7k in private party sales. I got my 07 Street Bob with 3200mi over the summer for 6900.

I have owned several of each frame type minus a Sportster. If you ride solo Softail is a very comfy ride, I did not like it at all two up. If you are going to ride two up then I would look at the Dyna, it also rides well Solo.

Coming from a sport bike background the Dyna is the one to beat.

Guys thanks again for the added insight. I will probably start making a few offers

Jesse & Stel67, very helpful comments regarding the Dyna. It would be a no-brainer but I saw a silver & black two tone, chromed out Deuce that is absolutely gorgeous so it's making me think twice...

Happy holidays and be safe!

$7k is plenty. Stay away from dealers. Buy from an individual. Take someone that know bikes if needed. You'll get a LOT more bang for the buck.
