Back in the day, truck-tractors did not have front brakes. Those made after 1978 or so had front brakes on the steering axle.
Talk to old school truckers and they claim they are alive due to drive axle brakes only. Old school truckers claim front brakes brought in the problem of jack-knifing the trailer.
We no longer live in the old school world. Speeds are higher, traffic is heavier, people do stupid stuff and brakes are MUCH MUCH better.

I agree, modern big rig trucks even have ABS and disc brakes. But I'm waiting for old school truckers to chime in.

I think everyone for their input. I think I'm just going to leave it on and make myself start using it.

Exactly. "Old school" brakes were drum brakes and were just short of useless.
engine breaking was pretty much the thought of the day. Speeds were for the most part down and there was far less traffic. I'm with ya on the look but a good set of brakes today is pretty much necessary for survival.

I'd practice with it and getting used to it, before you get out on the highway.

Default Yeah, you need front brake

Larryshep1: back in 1979 I got my first Harley, a '64 Sportster w/no front brake. Didn't bother me. Until some loon cut across a merge lane I was in and then he hit his brakes. Tried as I could, the back brake alone just wasn't doin it and I hit his rear quarter panel. Of course I got the ticket. Even those old crappy mechanical drum brakes they had back then would have saved my bacon. But it wasn't there to use!
Damage to the Sporty and me was actually minimal, but the dirty bastard threatened to sue me 'cause it ruined his day.
Keep the front brake. Learn to get really good at using it. You won't regret it.
