While installing lower wind deflectors in my garage the bike went down. Having the handlebars turned all the way right I didn't make sure the kickstand was fully extended. What a numb nut. The good news is I always add engine guards just for this purpose, and between the engine guards , floorboard, and swing arm bag, damage was minimal. Only had a small scratch on the bottom of the engine guards and a small scoff on the left hand grip. ENGINE GUARDS ROCK!!
I was at my brothers garage with a painted floor backing my Tour Glide being very careful not to slip -- boom my right foot slipped and down went the bike , crash bar saved my ankle, big bikes --crash bars

Yes, that could have been ugly, especially for the ankle.

Definitely Yes...I can attest to that unfortunate situation when my friend took crash bar off his touring bike. One day, He and his wife were riding and somehow lost control of the bike waiting at a intersection. Bike tipped over to the left. His wife tried to help her hubby by regaining the position of the bike, failed and suffered several shattered bones in her ankle. Doctors placed 2 plates and drilled in several stainless screws in. Couldn't walk and attended Physical Therapy for several months. Hubby felt so guilty and installed the crash bar back on the bike so it doesn't happen again. One good thing came out of it was that she received a $55k check from Insurance.
