Default Regarding Love Juggs:

I find on my 18 RK that they do little TO nothing at normal riding spees from say 35-75 MPH. They make some fifference when sitting still but not a huge difference and I am still trying to figure out how much they actually help.

Police have ridden Harleys in parades in the hottest places in the country all day long and never over heat. The bikes were used in North Africa in the war, in the deserts, under the worst conditions in the world and never overheated. The ONLY way you could overheat your bike is in a burnout pit. Relax, no bikes are bursting into flames or exploding. Calm down and ride your bike and don't put ugly **** on it. You have a Harley, be a man and act right. Don't make me have to straighten you out again.

If they don't work why is HD starting to put them on new bikrs and oil coolers ?

I just can't see HD not testing their engines to extremes before production.

Like they tested the post-07 comps? Or the new ABS units? Or the cheap bearings? Or the TC Cam tensioners? Or....

Because people will pay extra for it? I ride in Texas heat in Houston traffic. Never overheated a bike.

I have talked to several HD dealerships and they are not adding them just because people will pay extra for them they are adding them because they work and just like on many of the bikes with farings many of the newer bikes the fairing is mounted to the frame not the front end. Hence easier turning because your are not turning the weight of the faring
Fans and oil coolers will help cool an engine that's a given but to what degree can be questioned . And as many have said and my bet is HD will agree a cooler operating engine will last longer . Just my . 02 cents worth
also I won't be surprised that more andmore of the HD bikes become water cooled.

Automotive desert proving grounds are in the Phoenix area. Arizona is a biker mecca. It is a high temp Harley crucible.

I did not know engine fans were a thing until I seen it on this forum. I do not cycle socialize so there's that for what it's worth.

Peace of mind has value and I selectively invest.

I think a quick answer to your question is; because they do work.
However:

I have an Ultra Cool oil cooler and a set of Love Jugs Mighty Mites cooling fans.

My testing of the oil cooler certainly shows that it lowers the oil temp by at much as 25-30 degrees.
I think common sense is 25-30 degree cooler oil translates to a cooler engine.

My testing of the Mighty Mites cooling fans certainly shows that they lower the head temp however IMO it's difficult to say how effective they are as it depends on how hot the heads get.
When I turn on my cooling fans I can feel the hot air being blown off the heads which tells me the heads are being cooled.

However the cooler heads computes to a hotter thigh.
Let's face it; if you are in need of cooling fans that means you're in slow/stopped conditions so the only air flow you're getting is the hot air coming off the engine created by the cooling fans.

For me the lower head temp created by the cooling fans are not worth the uncomfortable conditions they create.
However I'm not in slow/stopped conditions very often so perhaps if I was say in a lot of parades or inner City conditions I would accept the hotter thigh as the price to pay for a slightly cooler head temp.

So in conclusion knowing what I know now I would certainly buy the Ultra Cool oil cooler again but would not buy the head cooling fans.

Note that I stated I wouldn't buy the "cooling fans" and didn't reference the Mighty Mites.
I think the Love Jugs Mighty Mites are a quality product and performed as they are advertised.
It's just for me the physical conditions created by any head cooling fans just isn't worth the benefit of the cooler head temp they create.

If a Harley engine works anything like the little 2 stroke model engines I run then mixture is the key to altering the temperature an engine runs at.
Finding the correct ratio for maximum power is one thing but then just going a little richer cools the engine down quite a lot.
