I had my shoulder done in 2006. I'm self employed so staying home and resting wasn't an option. I had it so sore I thought I ripped the screws out. The doctor laughed and said I didn't. I'm sure your shoulder is just sore like mine was. If I was you I'd be getting ready for the riding season. Those bikes are too nice not to ride.

If you can't follow the doctors orders and take it easy after surgery, then you're only hurting yourself.

I don't know about shoulders but I had elbow surgery last year and it took me almost 3 full months before I was able to ride again. Just make sure to keep up with the therapy and do exactly what the doc says. Ignoring his advice will just make things worse and lengthen your recovery time

Messed up shoulders suck. It took me a couple of years after I busted both of mine to get back on a bike. Two years with very limited motion, still only have partial in both after 4 years. Did all the PT, and Dr said surgery wasn't a good option.

You'll ride again if you really want to. Just follow the Dr orders for healing. Ride when you think you're ready.

How is doc stopping you from riding? I had a total right knee replacement end of 12/2015. Doc told me I "couldn't" ride for at least 3 months. After two weeks I bungeed my cane to my t-bag and rode to meets friends, in the cold rain. LOL. Everyone thought I was nuts, and perhaps I was, but I rode. It felt good! Then I waited a few more weeks before I started riding regularly again.

It's not a practice life.

I had extensive shoulder surgery in May of last year. I was riding in September. I wish I had done the surgery sooner. It's very important to do the physical therapy. For me I did it more than recommended, because I wanted to get back on the bike as soon as possible. I was driving the car a couple of days after surgery but just to the store and back. Full recovery is very slow. I am still in pain at times, especially if I sleep on it in some weird way. There were a few times I thought I re-injured it, when I didn't . . . just part of recovery it seems. I didn't coddle it . . I used it, but was sensible about it. Didn't wear the sling after a couple weeks unless I was out or while sleeping. Slept in a chair for 8 weeks, which sucked, but doable (as you probably did). I never took pain meds besides over the counter stuff (hopefully you didn't get stuck taking pain cr*p). Of course the other health stuff you bring up is a different matter. For me I live 'today' and don't worry about what is 'possibly' coming.

Shoulder surgery several years ago. No problem riding now.
Low back herniated disc a few years back. Rode my VFR to physical therapy.
Follow doctor's orders. Hope you get back to riding soon.

Keep your chin up, follow doc's orders, re-hab, and be able to put on some more miles.

Good luck with the shoulder. Let us know how the doctors visit went. I had rotator cuff repairs on both shoulders. Like someone else said, stick with the PT. That will get you into the wind much quicker.

Don't sweat missing riding time in February or March. Some of us northerners don't get to ride anyway. It just makes that April ride so much sweeter. Lol.

Think of yourself as an honorary northerner.
