Lojack?
I am a LEO. I listen to the police radio for 9 hours per day that I am on duty. I have over and over heard other Officers broadcast a "LoJack" hit. I then follow that event with interest. The percentage of successful outcomes has been so low as to discourage me from ever purchasing a LoJack system for my prized Road King Classic. The manufacturer puts a good spin on the actual successes that they experience and that is great. But, IMHO so small of a percentage as to not be worth the money to me. ................ Again, my opinion only. ............... BC
Does Lojack operate the same as Onstar does in vehicles? I know with Onstar you can file a police report, they can call Onstar and Onstar can find your vehicle within so many feet. I thought with Lojack you have to file your vehicle as stolen and that activates some sort of transponder. The cops have to almost triangulate the stolen vehicles position to find it. Seems like a shot in the dark. Is my understanding of this right or wrong?
That's correct about the transmitter. I think the range on the transmitter located in your car or on your bikeis about 10 miles. So an officer, with a Lojack reciever, has to get pretty close to pick up the signal.
Hell, if you don't actually see them take your bike that Lojack ain't gonna do squat for you.
Just my 1/50th of a dollar.

I have never for the life of me been able to understand the popularity of Lojack. If my bike or car were stolen the last thing I would want is for them to be returned to me. I was an insusrance claims manager handling auto claims and by far the majority of theft recoveries that went back to the owners caused nothing but problems. There might not be visible damage to the exterior of your vehicle but the mechanics of your car/bikecan be trashed in less than 5 minutes.
My peace of mind come from having good insurance coverage with a good company. Speaking of that, my insurance company is far from the cheapest but this is one of those areas where I truly believe you get what you pay for.

On Star can be easily disabled, open the hood, look at the fuse box, pull the On Star fuse and it's kaput.
LOJACK doesn't have a fuse per se, it's wired into the system someplace and it's totally hidden. Depending where you are, LOJACK is worth the $$$.

I have Lojack and I feel it is money well spent. In addition to the tracking the new lojack system for motorcycles will call my cell phone plus 4 or 5 other methods of notification within 15 minutes if my bike is moved without my authorization. I've tested it and it works great. If it is stolen I'd like my bike back but more than anything I want revenge. If they can catch the SOB that took my bike it is well worth the money to me. I also use the alarm with remote. Keep your bike safe with...Lojack, Kojack and Glock.
