Leather superior? More like inferior. 5 years in and they are still struggling to produce quality leather
go look at the 17s. test ride one. I did. The fit is excellent. The leather is beautiful. Even harleys "leather" seats aren't all leather. Vinyl! Indian deserves some credit for putting out a nice product at attractive price. I want them to do well. look what happened! Harley got a fire lit under their *** to improve their bikes. Rushmore. 107 m8. water cooled heads. Oh and 114 in the cvo! The Indian standard 111 forced a response! That's the only reason Harley got off the dime Imo.

I don't know what R&D timelines are but the Thunderstroke is only about 4 years old.
Can HD really see it, redesign and test and go to production including tooling and supply chain changes in that amount of time? To say it was only driven by Indian competition? Unlikely. M8 and those updates were likely in the pipeline regardless of Indian. They may have been sped up though.
I hope Indian survives this time. I "like" them, but not enough to pick them over a Harley! There is.............NOTHING................like a Harley Davidson!
paint no but not bad. power yes. Chrome yes. Features yes plus power windshield. Infotainment appears better. Ride at least as smooth. Leather superior. The paint quality and choices are important and Harley has clear advantage I agree on that. cvo overpriced boys and the argument that upgrading to those parts is more expensive than cvo is silly because the parts are grossly over priced. Harley guys know that.
Power...no, the 110 actually has more hp and the same torque. The new M8 114 has more of both. Pull a Roadmaster up next to a CVO and the difference is obvious unless your blind, the CVO wins. And the new leather is not the same real leather as the 2014 Indians, it's a bonded leather and reports on the Indian forums are it cracks.

the Harley may win yes...particularly the paint is nicer. but you want to pay 10k more? I'm impressed with what Indian offers for the money. Just trying to be objective. Note I stated above a bought a 14 cvo limited 7k miles for 26k rather than the roadmaster for 30k. it's got most of the improvements for reasonable money.
As a soon-to-be-former Victory owner, F*** Polaris and anything they have a hand with after dropping the brand with no warning.
I predict Indian will go the same way, and I'd be surprised any Victory owner will ever purchase an Indian. They are depending on word-of-mouth for sales like they did with Victory; only that Indian has a stronger name-recognition. Still no commercials, radio ads, or anything else; so the same reason Victory failed will repeat itself.
In addition, so many other options could have made things better for the people who gave them a lot of money.

can't blame you. I've seen quite a few victorys and Polaris doesn't advertise nearly enough. Harley typically doesn't either. They did tv for the Rushmores but it's rare. Polaris has the pockets to really blast the ads. they should.

As you know I started this tread. I learnt a lot from the replies.
Please go back and read the original tread. Like I said they're both good bikes in their own right. They both have their pros and cons.
Some of you gave good constructive information while others are just Harley bigots and really don't know much about bikes and have nothing to contribute to this tread.
They never owned anything else and never will. It's like owing a FORD and never buying anything but a ford. How can you give a good assessment without having any knowledge of the other product.
I've always had a open mind and was never a follower. I own both bikes and like them both.
What I like about the FLHXS:
I prefer the looks of the HD slightly more than my Indian Chieftain. I like the Nav, info center, access to more accessories and dealerships.
What I like about the Indian Chieftain:
I like the TPS monitor, Power windshield, remote locking saddle bags, better ride, chromed controls and a slightly more powerful engine.
After all is said and done I went out and purchased a 2014 Black HD Street Glide Special (FLHXS) with 5K MILES.
I did this because I didn't want two of the same bikes.
