Default Need all Harley owners' help

Ok, I am a member of many motorcycle forums one of which happens to be www.xlforum.net. Read a post the other day about a guy getting royally screwed over by a dealership in AZ. The whole post is here ---> http://www.xlforum.net/vbportal/foru...ad.php?t=62364.

Here is the guy's first post:

so i took my 2000s into a dealer for the first and last time....
heres the story in short form....
had massive oil leaks from base gaskets and a slight intermittent ticking that sounded like a loose primary chain intermittently slapping, took it in,
turned out the oil tank had a leak too and had to be replaced, fine
heat warping from arizona heat caused leaks had sufaces machined, fine
might as well put in some new rings while its apart, fine
they nickel and dimed me on a few things, hoses, air cleaner etc, ok
said i had a split in the rear tire, went down to look at it, yep,new one ,fine
at this point i was told primary chain had been tightened, motor sealed up, new oil tank put on, so i bought some new AR pipes too, all looked real good, tech was proud of it get the new rubber on and we are done i'm told....cool, so far
shop calls me a couple of days later and says a nasty noise is coming from the bottom end, wha? the tech said all was good, was told the "master tech" had not adjusted the chain after all and did it after the top end and they apologized for him doing things backwards (sealing the top end before making sure about the bottom) first red flag (what kind of master tech would ever do the top first?) then claims the very slight intermittent click of the primary chain was actually covering up the sound of a wristpin bearing failure on the crank! (really?) so they tear it down again i go down to inspect the crank etc. the cams are destroyed! looked like someone took a grinding wheel to the top, totally dry damage, pistons heavily gouged and cylinder so scored it had to be bored out (told me that was from the tiny bits of metal dust from the bad bearing getting in between the piston and wall) next flag...why would they blow up in there out of the oil? i said what the hell happened to it? they said it was an existing condition, i said but i rode it in here, and if those gouges and scores were already existing why would a master tech re-ring it and tell me all looked good. the gouges were more the size a broken ring would make. they still refuse to admit any wrongdoing, personally I think they mounted the new oil tank (probably had one of their many unpaid MMI interns do it) didnt check to see if the kid put any oil in the new tank, tech assumed he naturally would and fired it up dry causing all of this damage. they still cant/wont give me any reason why the pistons/cylinders would be damaged at the 2nd teardown and were declared healthy and just ball honed the first time. now they wont give me my bike back till i pay another 2500 dollars for the crank, flywheel, cams.pistons, labor etc. total sevice bill over 4900 dollars!!!!! oh and to justify this charade I was told (Milwaukee will be interested in this) the wristpin bearing failure was a very common thing in Sporty's and pointed out 3 others on lifts that were allegedly having the same thing done, I recognized 2 of them as 2004 models! wow that would put them slightly above Yugo status and I dont think many folks would keep buying them. I'm calling the local TV station that has a fraud unit that likes to dig into these things and expose ripoffs. I also plan to relay this story to the H-D HQ, and may have to end up hiring a lawyer.but want to be sure of any and all possible causes they might come up with. opinions please?[/align]
Any and all help that can be offered would be most helpful. Most of us have been

Sounds like BS to me. Motors break from FOB's, not melt down.

Wow! Bad deal. I think the local news is a good idea, also maybe discuss it with them at length everyday in the showroom while they're tryin to sell to other unsuspecting folks, (one of my favorite tactics). Best of luck tou anyway!

Just read this Post and I'm aware of Stubbs' HD. Remember HD has a school their and they hire many just outta school guys to work on their Bikes. Not to say those guys aren't good but most of them are not necessarily old school mechanics that can just listen and know just where the problem is. Most of those guys are by the book pretty much like your Shop Manual.

That's not what you want Bro, you want someone who knows Harleys in & out. They throw the book aside because they've been working on HDs all their lives. There was a guy named Rocky who use to hang there some years ago. See if you can locate him .. if you can, your problems will be solved.
