This year i traded in my metric cruiser to move up to a 2005 Road King.
The DAY i paid the taxes and put plates on the bike, had the bike stall out in the parking lot at work. Got it restarted and let the bike sit and idle and everything seemed to be fine. Heard a little noise on the left hand side (which i believe to be a primary chain tensioner that needs to be either replaced or re-adjusted) No biggie.
The next day, took it around the block and the oil light turned on...... Kinda of a biggie. Got it to the house shut it down. Checked the oil level which was right on. Turned it on again and heard a pretty pronounced ticking noise which i believe to be coming from the cylinder..... Now im getting worried.
Any thoughts?
Did not get an extended warranty, but am hoping that the dealer steps up and corrects whatever is wrong. In going to trailer it in..

Primary tensioners...They tend to come apart and take out oil pumps and such...Take it to a good mechanic and get them to take a look...
I'm hoping that was sarcastic........just in case it wasn't....didn't you mean cam tensioners?
As for original issue.....I would hope the dealer will stand by the bike since it all happened with 1 day of ownership. You didn't mention--how many miles does the bike have??
Ask if the valve seals were changed out or if they are still the originals in 05. 05's had valve-itis with faulty valve seals and were redesigned because of it. Cam tensioners should be looked at as stated. How many miles on the scoot?
Dealer did offer an extended warranty which i declined. (I didn't expect to be back within 35 days) did not check the primary fluid level because I have not had a chance to purchase the necessary tools to remove the inspection plate. Again, the issue i first heard was on the left hand low side on the Primary chain drive chain? cam chain tensioner would be on the right side? Am I wrong here?
33k on the bike
You didn't mention how many miles are on the bike.
The ticking noise and the oil light coming on leads me to believe that it may be the cam chain tensioners (probably the inside tensioner) has broken apart and is plugging the oil supply.
If this is the problem, I hope that you don' have any further damage.
I just had the new S/E kit installed on mine (not cheap) but it's supposed to last longer and it definitely greatly improves the oil pressure.
After only 35 days of ownership, I think the dealer should give you some kind of a warranty. Perhaps they'll allow you to buy the extended warranty now?
