Default 2012 dyna misfiring

I recently purchased a used 2012 dyna street bob with 5,000 miles, had the dealers but vance and Hines short shots on it with screaming eagle breather on it. Now the problem is that it seems to be misfiring when I am just cruising in the lower rpm range (2300-2600). And I'm not 100% sure what the issue is? Help plz

You either need a Tuner to Dyno the bike and/or you also need a fuel management device a.k.a. a tuner, like a PowerVision unit, so he can do it properly . You can also purchase a FuelPak 3 and try doing it your self.

Thanks, and is there a cheaper route to go besides getting a tuner?

Not even sure where to begin with that answer. There is zero basis for advice that adding a tuner to a misfiring bike will solve the problem, if it is in fact misfiring.

Some diagnosis is required. Could be wiring, a sensor, fuel pump, tons of stuff.

If you can't diagnose it yourself, and it is very reproducible, take it to a dealer and see what they say.

The actual resolution may be cheaper or more expensive than a tuner, but at least you wont own a tuner you dont need.

It is possible that what you perceive as misfiring is actually a surging affect if a bike is running too lean.

Adding a fuel management solution of some type would help this, but despite a lot of mythology on the forums, the ECM can adjust to a stage 1 setup.

If it turns out that a fuel management system is necessary, there are inexpensive options. Fuel Moto Microtuner is $199. Nightrider VIEDS is another inexpensive option

Whatever you do, dont let the dealer talk you into the stage 1 download, its a waste of money, and a Microtuner will cost you roughtly the same for a lot more flexibility and better results.

I did replace the spark plugs and the tips were white and that does mean its running lean correct? And if so am I able to adjust that? I'm not that familiar with fuel injection yet.

Hey Cody, welcome to the forum.

As it was said, you need a tuner. In the old days you would just replace the needles in the carb to match your setup and be done. With Fuel Injection you need a tool to make changes to the computer which manages your fuel. This tool is the "tuner".

I just added the Vance & Hines FP3 to my bike and highly recommend it. It will solve your problems as it did for me and it is extremely simple to install and use. The best part is that it connects to your smart phone via bluetooth so you get live data as you ride such as voltage, temperature, torque, and a whole bunch more. Great stuff to have.

One other thing that might cause what you call misfiring is a leak in your exhaust. Make sure that you torque the clamp bolt to specs or you will have a leak.

I called the HD dealership I got the bike from and told them what was going on they said that the ecu was supposed to be flashed or adjusted to the spec that it needed to be for the air intake and exhaust it has on it now. And he said they may have forgotten to do it when they installed the exhaust. So would I still need a fuel tuner or would them flashing or adjusting the ecu be enough?

And thanks for all the responses I appreciate it alot

Thats the stage 1 flash. It may solve your problem, but its a waste of money because for roughly the same money, you can buy a Micro Tuner which will give you much more flexibility in the future.

If they want to charge you additional money for the stage 1 flash (often referred to as the "dealer download"), decline and call Fuel Moto. If they have already charged you for it, get a refund, then call Fuel Moto

If they are going to flash it for free with the upgrade I'd say give it a try. Misfiring can be from running too lean, a plug, plug wires, spark timing, bad exhaust seal, O2 sensor going bad.....

Going to a stage 1 mod definitely affects lean/rich on the bike.
Besides pipes, did they change the air cleaner?
What tuner does it have now? Screaming Eagle?
