Default Road King brake lights issue

I have a 2000 Road King Classic. It has a dual filament brake/signal light set up in the back (but looks like the stock ones). Taking 1157 bulbs. I just had the left socket go bad. Anyone know what bike I should be looking for? When I look up parts for my bike i keep coming across the 1156 socket set up.
I also tried to replace the main brake light with an led one. It didnt work. I reinstalled the original one and now I have no brake light there. Just the running light. Would that be a brake switch? Im wondering since the two signal/brake lights light up when I hit the brakes. Looks like I'm missing bike week if i don't figure this out.
Thanks for any help

Sounds like you need to take a voltmeter and/or a test lamp and start tracing out wiring. Auto parts stores will have 1157 sockets, installing one might or might not be a problem. You need to know exactly what's gone wrong where.

Look under your seat. If the signal lights are also coming on with the brake light, you might have a run/turn/brake module under there. Might be a problem with that. I just had an older one go bad and had to replace.

Stock setup on your bike was a 1157 bulb in the fender mounted taillight / brake light. The rear turn signals were single element 1156 bulbs used only as turn signals.
Some people install converters that allow the rear turn signals to operate as additional brake lights and turn signals. AFAIK they still use a single element bulb. Take a lens off and remove a bulb to see what you have. Also look by the front of the rear fender, where the rear harness exits from under the rear fender, to see if a converter has been added to the bike. Some times the converters go bad. They usually just plug in and can easily be removed.
If you brake light is no longer working, check the fuses.

Just went through this with my Fat Boy. J&P fitment chart said the 1157 base would work for LED inserts in the rear signals. Not so. Had to send them back to exchange for 1156 base. You are correct in that the 1156 single filament bulbs still work with the run/brake/turn module. My RKC and wife's Deluxe are both 1156 rear signals also.
