I've been looking at the laws here in LA, and so long as the turn sig is amber or red, they don't stipulate that you need seperate lights for the brake and turn signal
As such, I was thinking of bobbing the fender, ditching the tail light and having the turn signals (now with red LEDs or bulbs) re wired to light up in unison as a brake indicator and flash individually as a turn signal. How difficult would this be for someone to set up, and are there any parts/kits worth looking at for the job?
RE: Double duty turnsignals & ditching the taillight
I don't know the part numbers, but my WG was set up by the dealer with dual filament bulbs in the rear t/s - they function as markers as well as brake/turn signals. You might want to make sure there are no surface area requirements for brake lights.
RE: Double duty turnsignals & ditching the taillight
Harley sells a modual that you plug into the harness under the seat that makes your turn signals function as tailights without any additional mods (uses the same bulbs). I think it's around $25 to $50.
RE: Double duty turnsignals & ditching the taillight
This Module makes the turn signals work as turn/brake only, it does not convert it to "tail/brake/running light". Without the "brake light" you would have no "tail/running" light.

i just did the same thing with my springer. i had a plate manufactured for my bob tail fender and put a side mount plate and made my turn signals brake lights. the module was like 45 bucks and it looks great.
