Well I have been gone for a little while, somewhere around 6 months or so. You see the wife and I are getting a divorce, as she decided to leave me and our 5 year old autistic son for the guy who put the siding up on our house. I was a little depressed and could not shake the feeling that since my wife of 11 years decided to leave that my life was ruined.
I was wrong.
I have had many things, good and bad happen to me since late november, and I have learned alot along the way. I have learned that even if you dont think there is a problem in your life that it does not mean that there is none. I have learned never to lose yourself in attempting to understand others, and that good things can truly come from unexpected places.
In the course of this change of life, I have found myself closer to my son and watched him grow and achieve more in six months than in the previous 4 years of his life, I have found a wonderful woman who seems to actually be happy to be around me and I have been drawn closer to my parents, even though it is still difficult for us to see eye to eye all the time.
You see for the past 11 years my life has been wrapped up in doing the one thing that I felt was more important than anything else in the world so much so in fact that it became unhealthy. I tried to make my soon to be ex wife as happy as possible and in doing so I neglected other people to the point of exclusion. what does this have to do with Harleys you ask? Well my intrest in Harleys began with my dad he would tell me about his old sportster that he had with fond memories about 30 years ago. Well two years ago I bought my first Harley and since then I had bugged the old man to buy one himself as I would notice the way he would look at mine, with obvious fond memories coursing through his head. Well he just retired like 2 weeks ago and 2 days ago I got the news that he he took the plunge and bought his first motorcycle in 30 years a 07 1200 Sportster. So last night I washed up my bike and together we went on our first "father and son ride." Although we did not say much as we saddled up we both knew that this was the closest that we had ever felt to each other in 11 years. No life is not over it has just begun.
Good luck buddy. Ditch the bitch , pile on the miles with your Old man, enjoy the new squeeze and be there for your Son. Life will continue to get better.
Life has lots of hurdles.. thats what makes us who we are.. you sound like a great guy who just was out of touch for a while. Good luck from now on and congrats on your life with your son and your dad. Ride safe...
