I recently had a stage 1 upgrade to my 2013 Heritage softail classic. SE slip ons, Arlen Ness air kit and tuner was added. The bike was dyno tuned and results were 72 HP and 96 TQ. Anybody else have similar results?
A stage I upgrade is only going to translate into a 5-10% increase in power. If you are really looking to improve the HP and TQ you have to upgrade to at least a stage II. Your numbers sound reasonable for a 103 engine with a stage I. Could they be better? Possibly. Could they be worse? Possibly. They're in the ballpark.
You have a tuner that can help enrich the AFR, cool the engine and provide a limited increase in power. It is my opinion that a dyno tune with only a stage I is not necessary. It's perfectly fine to do it and there is no harm but it is trying to get maximum power from a set up that isn't designed for maximum power. Will the money spent for a dyno tune provide such a benefit in HP and TQ over the tuner alone to justify it's cost? Not in my opinion.
After a stage II, I believe a dyno is highly recommended.
Just had my 12 ultra dynoed and it had 79 hp ,can't remember the torque. Arlen Ness big sucker after market head pipe 2-1-2, Bassani mufflers with 2" cores and Power Vision tuner. They told me it would make more power with bigger cores in mufflers but I would rather be able to listen to the radio if l want.
