Default Snapped element mounting stud - Help!

While installing my OEM Stage 1 kit, I overtightened one of the element mounting studs with a torque wrench - in not sure what happened. The wrench was set correctly.

Exactly how screwed am I? Can I get this out myself, and if so, how? The stud came in the kit with red loctite already on it, so I'm thinking it's really going to be tough.

If the holes go all the way through your best bet is to take the plate off & drill it out from the back side. If not, drill a slightly smaller than the bolt hole & use an easy out.

Thanks for reply... I don't think the holes go all the way through. Unfortunately, I've never used an Easy Out (I'm normally really, really careful about NOT messing up like this).

Here is a trick that has worked well for me in the past.

Buy a GOOD quality left hand drill bit. Put your drill in reverse and it will twist it right out. If not try an easy out.

If you're uneasy about repairing it ... pull the plate off and take it by a local ( machine ) shop ... they'll be glad to drill it out ... then use a Timesert ( http://www.timesert.com/ ) or whatever they recommend to repair it ( if it needs to be repaired ) They may be able to "renew" the hole and threads without it.

Centerpunch broken bolt - stuff a rag in the inlet - drill - Easy-out - chase threads to make sure they weren't a problem, put it back together with a new bolt.. Don't forget to remove the rag.

If you have the tools and parts 10 - 15 minute job.

Thanks guys! I took the plate off, and I'll try and get the bolt out. Worst scenario: I have to buy a new backing plate and a bolt.

This and use a pencil torch to heat up the boss a bit when you drill the bolt, it may just spin the bolt out when the loctite gives. Left hand drill bit if the hole doesn't go through.
