I personally think both bikes are overpriced. Especially the 15 yr old Road King. I would keep looking.

There is a 2002 RK in the classifieds right now. Asking $6900 with 45000 miles, one owner.

If you were closer I'd try to get you to look at my 2003 FLHTPI (assuming you'd consider a fairing bike). 14,000 original miles on it and VERY clean for $7,000. Papa needs a new Road King.

Forget the old bikes.

Go to a dealership and rent a few bikes, with the wife. Ride them for 24 hours each. Ride at night, rain(if possible,) day, solo, 2-up. Super slab/twistys/city testing. Slow speed maneuvering. Everything you may be exposed to, expose these rentals to. Get a true evaluation for each model you are interested in. Take notes on each bike as you ride it.
When done, tally your notes, chose what bike works best for your use.
Go to dealership, armed with the knowledge from www.seedealercost.com
Make your best deal, ride your new bike that has a warranty, full parts support and a dealership network known the world over.

Here comes that tagline, everyone is sick of seeing, over and over and over again~

We'd rather you make a $4-500 investment, than a $21,000 mistake.

Go with the Road king You will be glad you did, however If you do get the Road king there is one thing you cant do with out, rear stabilizer. The stabilizer is the big difference between the old touring frame, and the new touring frame.

02 Road King had the Delphi FI and the forged crank with the tight runout specs. They are damn good bikes. i'd buy another one in a heartbeat.
