I bought a quick release windshield in October. It was something like $375 plus labor to set it up. It has four clamps, two on each side, that clamp directly on to the forks. I used it two times and on the third time I went to close one of the clamps and the piece of metal snapped in half. I called the dealer and told them and they said they have extra clamps in stock but they would have to charge me for it!
Is there no warranty on these things? It obviously had a flaw in the metal. I bought my bike from this dealer, I have $5000 worth of engine upgrades and I just gave them the repair job of $3800 after my accident. If they charge me for a clamp, I'm never going back in. I haven't talked to the parts manager yet so I may get a different attitude from him.
If I were you, I'd talk to the service manager and let him talk to the parts geek. Sounds like you've spent enough at that shop that they oughta be willing to dig deep into their pockets forthe cost of that clamp.
Quick release...Lmao I thought that was related to another subject...Scootergrrl has one of those things, she took it off the bike the day we got it home and it has not gone back on yet. I have read this about those on here before, so I hope I don't ever have to put it on, it might release quickly...
Either talk to the service manager or the parts manager.
Go with the one that you have the best relationship with.
At my regular dealership, I get along better with the parts manager than the service manager, so I'd go to him if I had a similar problem.
Go to both if you have to.
That problem should definitely be under some kind of warranty.
It sux that you have to push so hard on this, but I think they should eventually come around.
It's not like the dealer would lose so much money on this. I'm sure they canwrite the cost of the windshield off to the mfr as a defective product and get credit for it.
I had the same problem and they replaced it under warrenty. If you talk to the service manager and let him pull up your records in regards the $$ you spent with them. Bring them the recipts if you have them too. If not I would call HD direct and talk to them. SOme times you have to raddle their cage so you can keep your $$$.
