I don't want anything that is not coming to me. I want to choose my fights. If it is under warranty I want it covered. If it's not under warranty, I will pay for it and save that favor for something more expensive! Agreed?
Tell him just like you told us. It will at least let him know why you didnt come back
if he doesnt honor his parts.

I bought a quick release windshield in October. It was something like $375 plus labor to set it up. It has four clamps, two on each side, that clamp directly on to the forks. I used it two times and on the third time I went to close one of the clamps and the piece of metal snapped in half. I called the dealer and told them and they said they have extra clamps in stock but they would have to charge me for it!
Is there no warranty on these things? It obviously had a flaw in the metal. I bought my bike from this dealer, I have $5000 worth of engine upgrades and I just gave them the repair job of $3800 after my accident. If they charge me for a clamp, I'm never going back in. I haven't talked to the parts manager yet so I may get a different attitude from him.
No, its not like you are asking for a favor and dont want to use them up.
The part is defective it broke after 3 uses. Your warranty is still there if you need it for something larger. I would make them make it right. No need to choose.

RE: Quick release clamp broke on third use..(UPDATE)
UPDATE 06/08/07----- Rode to the dealer last night. They did the right think. I showed it to the parts manager and I also showed him that the chrome on my sissy bar was de-laminating. He replaced them both without question and ran them over to the service department to get the torques bits and installed them.
RE: Quick release clamp broke on third use..(UPDATE)
I was in the metal business for 35 yrs and if it is a part made in China I can understand the junk part.
We had to some times return SS304 SS316 because the crap would rust--not good for the food industry...
