Tried a number of things differently and successfully updated to the current version.
Used an older Sandisk 4GB that would allow me to format using FAT32. (The 64 would only allow exFAT)
put the bike into Diagnostic Mode.
not sure which one of these, or both are responsible for success but it's worth of note.
Update:
took the 64gb with exFAT format followed the exact steps that worked and this drive still wouldn't read. Guess the that is the culprit.
Thanks OP for stating this Thread and leading me to a working update.
so the Fat32 works? And not exFat? I have an older external Seagate 2.0 external HHD which my 2024 StreetGlide Boom GTS reads, but will not read a Western Digital Passport Ultra. Maybe i need to format to Fat32. Gonna check current formatting. Thanks for details.

so I spent too many hours and learned from this thread I believe your USB device must be NTFS and not exFAT.
I downloaded an update for my Boombox 2015. Followed step by step the instructions but in all cases (with 3 independent USB sticks) the Boombox doesn't recognize the software on the USB stick. Tried unzipped and zipped but no results at all. The USB is seen as a 'music USB' and not as a carrier of updates. What I am doing wrong?
You must format your Flash drive as NTFS. Not FAT32. I had the same issue where the radio would just play the ring tones and such. Reformatted the flash drive did the trick.
