VRod for a big guy
i posted this question in the VRod forum but haven't gotten a response yet. I'm looking at a 05 VRod Screaming Eagle with a Road Glude fairing that is located about 6 hrs away from me. The guy seems interested in trading me for my EVO Fatboy. I need a more comfortable bike to ride two up, I'm 6' 240# and the boss lady is not petite but not obese.
This bike looks set up for cruising, the handlebars are up higher it has driver and passenger floor boards etc.
Is a VROD a comfortable cruiser for a guy of my size? What should I look for and ask the previous owner? Are these reliable bikes?
I don't think you'd be happy with the Vrod, but I guess it depends on what seat and other stuff it has for touring. Major drawback is the older Vrods have a small gas tank. They are reliable as far as I know. A couple friends have them and I haven't heard any complaints except for the need for gas before everyone else.
I owned a NightRod for a few years. Mechanically they are rock solid. Never gave me any issues whatsoever. Just gas and oil changes. The reason I got rid of it was it sucked on the highway 5speed tranny and anything over 2hours beat me up pretty good. As far as a passenger goes you might as well forget about it! My woman was tapping out after 45 minutes of riding. I tried different types of passenger cushions gel and air and nothing worked. Don't get me wrong it was an awesome bike to rip around town but I needed a bike to do some traveling and more comfort orientated for a passenger. I don't believe this bike will suit your needs given your size and riding style.
Of course this is just my opinion so take it for what it's worth. I know somebody will chime in and say it's an awesome bike and perfectly suited for touring yada yada. More power to em!!! I just know for me coming off a NightRod to a Road Glide was a night and day difference. I miss looking @ it in my garage but my *** doesn't miss riding it......

Thanks for the replies. I had ridden The VRod a couple times at Daytona and they are super fast but your right, I don't think it would make a good two up touring ride.
Guess I'll save my pennies for a real tourer.
