Looking to figure out what size socket to use on the
rear brake pad retainer pin. I've read that the '06 uses a 1/4" 12pt.
Yet there are other references to a 6mm 12pt socket.
For what its worth this is the 105th Anniversary Edition
Anyone know which size?
The two bolts that hold the caliper to the bracket are T40 Torx.
Also any suggestions on where to purchase the elusive 12pt sockets?
Thanks,
The Dyna rear brake pad pin is metric, but you can use a 1/4" 12 point. I've changed out my brake pads several times and use a box end 1/4" 12 point wrench. I've had it for ages but they do exist

Rear caliper pad pin is 80 - 120 in-lbs
Rear caliper fasteners are 16 - 20 ft-lbs...
This. I use a flex head 1/4" box end ratcheting wrench. Easy.

Hi TinCupChalice,
Can you check the rear caliper mounting bolt torque?
The manual I have shows 10 - 14 ft-lbs.
The rear caliper break pad pin is what I have also.
Thanks man.
I have a '05 softail in which the service manual actually says '1/4" 12 pt. I just ordered one from Lowes (of all places) for $3 and change. Hope yours is the same size.
Just checked, your '08 is running the same #40908-08 caliper assembly and the same #42062-08 caliper bracket as the later Dyna's but they show a 'B' revision on the #42143-08 upper caliper pin slider and an 'A' revision on the #44066-08 lower caliper pin kit for later years.
Not quite sure what was changed with those two part numbers but if you've got the service manual for your year follow it for the rear caliper fasteners. The pad pin is still the same #42345-08 so that shouldn't be any different on the torque spec.
I don't know what they changed with the two fasteners, I thought they were still the same, but follow the service manual for your year for your torque spec...
