No such animal as a 1200 cc Dyna. There are 1200cc Sportsters, but they are 2 totally different bikes.

One of the easiest ways to tell if you don't know Harleys is to look at the rear wheel. On a Sportster, the drive belt (or chain) will be on the right side, with the brake rotor and caliper on the left side. Dynas are opposite - belt or chain on the left, brake on the right.

As for your original question, the engine should be enough either way (you can always increase performance). You'll want to see what frame and set up feels most comfortable to you.
Me and my roommate are pretty similar in build (5'7" and 200lbs) but I like the forward controls and he likes the mid for example.
