Hello guys so just little history. Bought a 2016 slim last year and rode for awhile now and missed my 1000 mile service by along shot. Have about 1650 miles on it now and will have about 1800 miles on it by the time I get it back to the dealer. Did I just screw my self on my warranty for future things. Just curious on this. Thanks
I think the dealers are used to it. I took my Slim in at 1,075 miles, and the tech who checked me in was like, "Whoa, we almost never see it that close, more like 1500-1600 miles, congrats!!!"
I believe that for HD to deny a warranty claim they would have to be able to show that the direct cause of some warranty issue was because you failed to do the service on time. That would limit the issues to lack of fresh lubrication problems. Not an easy thing for HD to do. If your shocks give out, for example, they cannot point to the lack of a timely oil change as a cause.
It would be unlikely for any wear issues to show themselves within the warranty period even if you never did the fluid change. If you have an extended warranty and you are more careful with your service schedule in the future, I doubt they would ever raise the issue.
The downside of failing to follow the maintenance schedule is in the resale value. An astute buyer or dealer taking the bike in on trade, wants to see that it was well maintained. Failure to follow the schedule will cost you potential buyers and $$ at trade in.
