The nice thing is, 28 is what shows up on the GPS and all other maps.
The reality is, the terrain around here makes just about any road a fun ride.
Here's a local one that is one of my favorites. From the Stonepile Gap, north on Hwy 60 to Hwy 180, east on 180 to US 129. South on 129 to US 9/19, east to the Stonepile Gap. 37 miles of smiles. Stop at the overlooks on the way up Hwy 60 for some incredible long range views. No one calls it the "Cooler Run" anymore, and I'm not really sure on the origin of the name. It was started by Frank Cheek, the founder of TWO about 40 years ago.
thanks for sharing ride ideas everyone! the group is getting together tomorrow to discuss rides.
Your best planning for which rides to do: You will likely not even open up your list when you get here. The quote around this area is "you can't find a bad road" holds true. It is a non stop amusement ride for bikes. As a group, get out as early each day and point your bike and ride. It's relaxing and you'll find it's going to be your best day.

This is true.. After the second day out pre planning went in the trash.
I'm not a fan of The Dragon. Too many idiots hangout there. I watched someone get life flighted off the mountain in front of me the last time I rode it. That tends to damper your impression of it.
I rode the Dragon on the 4th of July back around 2000 on an excursion from my cabin down between Murphy and Hayesville. You're right, too many idiots. Some guy on a sport bike coming around the corner would've been dead meat if I'd been in a car, he was leaning so far over in my lane.
That said, just about any road in the mountains is great.
I suppose you have to do it at least once .. but .. dragon schmagon ... there are much better roads around than that death trap .. the diamondback ... the snake .. 268 ... and many more.
