Default 2012 FLHTK Heated Grip Question

So, I was riding in Colorado last month and discovered that at some point the control dial on my heated grip was missing (stolen?...just fell off?...who knows?). Anyway, I went to my local HD dealer today and was told that the dial (it's numbered from 1 to 6) cannot be ordered and that I need to buy an entire LH Handgrip ($140.50 + tax!) AUGHHHHH!!!

Has anyone out there had a similar problem and, if so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks!

no but I was talking to a guy from Colorado who said he lost his and
took one from a bike with out of state plates.

I guess no one is going to give you a serious answer. We see a lot of
"one and done" someone enters one post and is never heard from again.

Me, I would just use the heated grips without the dial. Just remember where
the numbers were. Or you could find a salvage bike that had the part. (Good
luck with that). Or make one yourself. Most I suspect would pay the price.

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for reminding all of us that when it comes
to parts, HD stands for Hundred Dollars.

Thanks, Kickstartfan. I don't do a lot of winter riding here in the Chicago area except for the annual Toys for Tots parade in early December. That being said, it would have been nice to try it this year with heated grips.

At some point I'll probably pay the HD ransom, but a little time tinkering with stuff I can find at Ace Hardware might offer me an acceptable work around.
