Default Heated grips "options"

OK I know its not the season for this thread, but looking for some advice here. We just returned last night from Sturgis and my sons $250 H.D. heated grips failed on the way home during a rain storm. Really sucks that you count on equipment and when you need it it doesn't work. So my question is has anyone found the reason these heated grips go out and can they be repaired? Or what is a "solid" option for heated grips? I have read that these H.D. units are crap and the "Heat Demons" might be the way to go? So looking for advice from anyone that has been down this road before.....Thanks guys!

Hearing horror stories about the HD heated grips, turned me away.
Never tried them so I have no opinion....
Heat Demons all the way....

Just installed a set of Heat Demons on my '15 RGS after reading so many bad reviews on the HD ones. I used a First Gear Heat-troller to control them as their clamp style control won't work with my bike. I also chose them for internally wiring and my choice of grips.

Heat Demon and Avon grips teamed up to make some heated grips. That would have been my second choice.

Installed the HD heated grips on my 99 the first year they hit the P&A catalog. No issues up until I traded in '08. I had them put on my '08 FLHTC before I took delivery and 55,000 miles still working as intended. Live in northern New England so use them often in spring and fall.

Same here. We got hit with that same storm coming back from Custer into Deadwood. Heated grips was nice. But I am in the same boat with the wife's TriGlide. She did not have heated grips and was looking at the Heat Daemons. Is there room for that heater between the throttle by wire module and the inside of bar? Seems really tight.
