Edit: BTW...my understanding is dealers don't arrange shipments. Motorcycle shipping companies will ship from dealer to dealer. But, it is not a dealer service. The dealer will accept the bike for a nominal fee.

Easy folks. I left out the details because I didn't think slandering the dealership at this point would be helpful to my situation, and still have hopes for an amicable resolution.

A group of us rode to Sturgis this year, a couple of us had to to be back to work so we decided to ship the bikes home and catch a flight back to Canada from Billings MT after a day's ride.

The shipping company was booked through Harley, and is the the company Harley uses for their "trike division" (dealers words, not mine). Shipping was booked months in advance, and the bikes were delivered on time by us on the scheduled drop off date. (Aug 8th)

They were supposed to be picked up the next day, but I wasn't contacted by a representative from the shipping company regarding pick up until the 18th, at which point I found out that the bikes had to go to the main shipping hub in Pennsylvania, then back across the country to Vegas, before finally heading north to Washington (where we had planned to pick them up). I tried to have the entire process halted, but the bikes were already loaded and on the road heading east by this time.

It's been a week since I've been able to get a reply out of either the shipping company, or the dealership and was just hoping that someone might have an idea on how to go over the heads of these people.

Long story short, we were promised delivery to Washington between 10-14 days from original drop off date, and now here we are. In case anyone is curious, price was $600/bike.

Sorry for the delayed response, it's been a busy week.

Sounds like a real pain in the *** situation. At this point with the bikes in the hands of the shipping company it would do little good to contact the dealership as the bikes are out of their hands.
Sounds like the HD dealership was basically a middle man, someone dropped the ball and the pick up at the dealership was delayed 10 days.

Im not sure who you are speaking to at the shipping company but someone up the chain of command there would be who you need to contact as the bikes are in their hands. From your story it looks like the bikes were originally supposed to arrive to you in 10-14 days from drop off, since they were not picked up until the 18th it looks like today would be the end of 14 day window for transport.

From your story I am guessing you may have used the dealership in Billings as the drop off point, it thats the case their web site list the email for the Owner. You may try a call or email to him detailing your issue and basically asking for an explanation as to who is at fault for the 10 day delay in picking up your bikes. Other than that I would look up info on the shipping company in an attempt to contact someone in management their to get an eta on delivery and an explanation as to what caused the delay.

Either way I agree it is bad form from both the dealer and the transport company for failure to communicate with you for a week and wish you luck

Whoever you paid the money to is the company to be speaking with. They are the responsible party or, at least, the company that should be doing the leg work to get you information.

Good luck.

One more problem that could be averted if you'd just ride.

Yes, today would be the end of the 14 day window for delivery, and now the shipping company shares some blame as well. Good idea, contacting the owner via email. The only reason I still look to the dealer for answers, is because they are the ones we handed our $1200 to. I agree though, once the bikes are loaded they probably wash their hands.

I assure you, we rode our fair share. 4000 kms on our bar hoppers, sightseeing the whole way. Our problem could have been averted if we trailered our baggers down like everyone else there too.

If I could have afforded the days off, I gladly would have finished the ride home, I do my best to work with what I have.

I work for a car dealer.
We rarely use ANY shippers for just this reason.
We have many horror stories.
