Default Trailer tire life.

Going to look at a Kendon dual rail trailer today. It is a 2011 model with less than 1000 miles. I am thinking that the tires need replacing since they are at least 6 years old. This has been stored inside and looks new. What do you think?

Tires are cheap, for peace of mind change them.
If you expect to haggle the guy down on price because the tires are old,,
Good luck,, it might work.

Agreed. Tread may be good, but probably dry rot between treads. Take this opportunity to install radials. My Kendons been from IN to FL, CO x2, and GA and needs tires now. Great trailers. Also keep in mind there are 2 versions of the dual. A ride up and the non ride up.

Wink Replace them...

I have a Kendon single on which I have towed my Dyna SG 7.500 miles this year to Utah, Colorado, NV, NM etc.}, for a lot of fine riding. YES, scrap those tires and get new, I highly recommend Maxxis {about $100 a piece}.

Trailer tires {ST's}, are notorious for failures especially the so called "China Bomb's. They may look fine but they tend to time out, ripe for a blowout after 4 years max. Think about what happens to your bike{s}, if one of your tires blows... arrrg!

Yup, id definately replace. On the other hand, i haul a trailer alot for work and a blowout isnt a big deal if youve got your spare and change kit. Its to the point where we put money on what trailer/vehicle is going to have the blowout.

I normally replace mine every 5 years. Look at the manufacture date on the sidewall. Trailer tires, especially the little 13-14" ones, are usually falling apart well before the tread shows it.

IMO- make sure you have a good spare and tow away.
A tire stored inside for 6 years should be fine.

I installed the tires on my tandem axle trailer in '10 and they still look good tread wise but I will replace them next spring.

Currently I only use the trailer for an occasional trip into the city (120 miles round trip) or to the dealer if I have to take my bike in for work and have to leave it.

Long, cross-country trips in hot weather can be hard on tires and I'd rather pay out less than $100 bucks a year and not have to worry about blowouts.

Ask for radials not Bias ply... the cheap Bias ply trailers tires are just that, cheap...
