Common courtesy is lacking on this site, and it's at a point where I'm wondering if a new rule, or a sticky, could be implemented. My bone to pick:
Anyone posting in our Marketplace section is subject to sale killers. It's really beginning to **** me off to see some guy post a ad, only to have some moron pipe up with something to the tune of "I paid half that price at...", "You can buy this cheaper at...", etc...
Saw one this morning for a shop manual. Even that got skewered by some asswipe with a link to eBay for - get ready - a DIGITAL version for less $$.
Listen up people; if I'm trying to sell a part and you think you've got info that'll help me make the sale, PM ME! Otherwise shut yer gob and tend yer garden!!
This hasn't happened to me personally, but I pity those for whom it has.
This is a friendly place folks; let's try harder to keep it that way.
damn. wish I would have known that. I've been looking for one of those, just paid $250. now I feel ripped off.
op: you're right, that is rude to do. I figure if you post something for sale at some ridiculous price, odds are you won't sell it. if i'm looking for an item, i'm gonna do my research first and figure out what i'm willing to pay for it. you want more, i'll just keep looking.
I'll admit, a few years back, I was "that guy" one time (commented on member's FS post). Realized it was a dick-head move and fixed the post + apologized to OP. It is wrong and a$$-hatish to kill someone's thread & that's where PM'ing comes into play (like OP states).
The Marketplace on these sites are wonderful resources to buy/sell...I'm a happy shopper/seller many times over. Let's keep it that way - thks Steel Wheels!
I have PMed people who post totally unrealistic prices on bikes for sale. Sometimes they are appreciative, sometimes they are snarky. So now I just let them keep bumping their thread for a year, while it loses even more value.
I agree people shouldn't say stuff like you are referencing, but a little reality check is needed on some of these threads. There is someone selling a bike with 40k miles for more than retail now. Why would someone buy from a private party for more than they could get it at the dealer?
