I reckon the corrosion and frozen controls is from lack of maintenance. Brakes need to flushed every 2 years to get the moisture out of the fluid.
No problems with my 2012 SG.
I received a SB letter from H-D (in the mail I believe) I'll have to find it. Anyway, it stated the suggested service interval for "Brake system fluid flush and replacement". I believe it was something like every 2 years or 20,000 miles. I need to look at the letter.
I'm getting both the HCU and the ABS replaced. I take my daughter for rides and want the piece of mind that it fixed. I didn't want it to turn out to be the ABS whenI fixed the HCU and later get a "surprise" with my daughter on the back.
My friend 2014 roadglide is locked up been that way for a while now he dozen have the money to fix it. Is there a recall on this it is front brake were would he start would a fluid flush help out or are there part to change. Any info would help
How many riders have experienced frozen ABS brake controls resulting from the failure of the early (08 -12) ABS units. Apparently a corroded ABS valve malfunctions resulting in hydraulic lock of the lever or pedal rendering that brake useless.
There is more to this then just yes/no. Was there not an ABS module change on the 2014+ Touring line? That may also be a factor. It seems that most of the module 'failures' are from the 2007-2010 timeframe. It may be more than just time in service or time without a fluid flush. The particular failure mode may be related to the earlier module or it may be both. Anyway, of those that have the issue it would be nice to know if the fluid was regularly serviced and which module was involved.
A hydraulically operated braking ststem is an incredably simple design. They've even been around so long that even the old school riders accept this new fangled technology. Yet, Harley still found a way to screw it up.
If HD made aircraft, would anyone fly it?
Not without a parachute!
I tell ya, HD is almost equal to the gov't. Equally inept...
