electrics
i changed a sportster motor due to a bent frame. the motor ran great in the bent frame. i am getting power to the starter but it is not turning all the wires to the starter are hooked up. i know just aenough about electrics to keep me in trouble,check voltage and continuity. is there some kind of ground or something that i am missing. thanks for any help. i dont know where that rubbernecker on the address came from

Your getting power to the starter, how/where are you measuring? The positive off the battery connects to the starter directly, then jumps off to a circuit breaker to the ing. switch. From there it goes to the NO connection of the start relay and also splits off through a fuse then to the start/stop swirch to the start switch then back to the start relay coil connection. The relay is grounded and then closes when the circuit is complete to supply power to the starter. The ground is what is switched to start the bike. See the attached schematic from my '98 sportster service manual. Trace the whole thing out and see where your missing a connection.
