Sorry brother but I have seen enough LEO demonstrations to know they regularly drop their bikes. They are amazingly skilled but none of that comes without stuff happens. And when they do take a spill it is usually done with a laugh from the officer and much ado applause.

No doubt they can ride and dump many, many, many times to get to that level. Even then, they dump quite often. The officer in that link doing the stop and immediate u-turn exercise is the one marketing the guards. He told me he practices on his days off for several hours and not many practice days go by he doesn't dump at least once. Laughed and said "the more you grind the floorboards the sharper you can turn." He was riding a two week old 2018, Electraglide Police Model. The boards were very thin and had 3000+ miles already with paper tags.

Okay I haven't figure out how to incorporate names from threads so I will type names

in response to cbyway and ew25950.

I actually saw him at the Galveston rally also, but he was selling them, maybe he had run out when you (cbyway), were there. I was there on Saturday morning. He was a really kool guy, did a demonstration of them and my buddy and I were so amazed we bought 2 sets on the spot. And yes they are guards for practicing slow speed skills. The dude could ride his A!! off and you could definitely tell he had slow speed maneuvers down. Anyway won't say what we paid for them but worth every penny this past week in my opinion. I don't know if they fit other bikes except harleys though.

The issue IMHO is becoming proficient, without dropping your scooter...

What I find confusing is this...

If the purpose of the guard is to prevent the chrome engine guard from getting marred during slow speed maneuvers, why is the guard itself chrome?

Chroming it only adds to the cost.

My reply:
I'm no motorman but i don't think U can become proficient on a 900 lb bike without dropping the 900 lb bike....sorry i just don't believe that.... there is a guy on youtube think the video is slow speed skills or something but he is an officer. I will try to find link but he is riding, stopping and balancing and then doing a flat u-turn on a dime. You know he had to drop his bike a lot to get that skilled and I personally would love to ride like that. thats why I luckily found and got the accessories i did for my engine guards down at the Galveston rally last weekend, I know its gonna take a lot of practice but i paid $30,000 for my bike and I wanna enjoy riding without having to worry about my skills lacking and more than that my safety and the safety of my gal on back.

the guards are chrome to make the bike look good but to protect the engine. they aren't made for dropping the bike repeatedly which is what happens when guys and gals wanna become proficient at slow speed skills on a 900 lb bike. Once again thats why I bought the accessories I did for my bike, because i wanna learn slow speed skills but can't afford to constantly replace the stock engine guards.

Im heading to a bike rally tomorrow near me and I can't wait to speak with other Harley owners in person about this subject. Will report what I find out asap.

p.s. can someone tell me how to reply without cutting and pasting quotes...thanks and yes I'm new to motorcycles and this forum.

How much are they!

I have the Pro Guards, and I love 'em. I've dropped the bike during practice, maybe a total of 4 or 5 times. There's just a scuffed flat spot down low, where you can't even see it.

Sure! Down in the bottom right corner of each post is a button labeled: "quote".

Just click on it and it will copy the post into a new window, where you can type whatever you want. When you hit "Submit Reply" it will include the original post, plus whatever you added.

By the way, you can edit the quoted post as much as you want, like by deleted parts you don't need. Which I did with your post.

And to the right of quote is multi quote. Hit it first and then consecutively to quote each person finishing with quote.

Now that I check out the product I can see it being a worthwhile investment. When I traded my last bike I was asked if it was ever dropped by the salesman. Well, dolt, of course it had been dropped. I never bought a bike to sit in a garage. Don't know what if any they knocked off the trade but this would help in that regard plus what they are selling it for, the intended purpose.

Did you read the last sentence, brother? I haven't dropped one since CHP motor school.

Very nice. Maybe I am too cheap but I could not see myself paying more than a few dollars for it.

As for me, what I do is, I cut my old bike tire into pieces and clamp it on with hose clamps. Reuse and recycle, I say! Get more use out of those trusty old tires.
