The Newsletter Rides Again!
Well, it is has been a very busy summer; Sturgis has come and gone again, the leaves are turning and Colorado has it's first snow. Did you go to Sturgis? Please consider sharing your story in Bike Talk.
The annual Bike Talk ride was a great success. We enjoyed two days of excellent riding with only minor weather issues. The Bike Talk folks are great to ride with so keep it in mind for next year. The day one ride was mostly in rainy, cool weather but we rode through some great territory. On the second day, we rode the Coronado Trail again and had a ball. US Highway 191 or the Coronado trail has 450-600 curves in 104 miles depending on who's counting. It has very slow switchbacks and fairly fast straights, and is an unbelievable ride. Almost everyone agreed that it is one of the best roads to ride bar none. Next years ride is tentatively scheduled to be at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon so if you are considering attending, check with the lodge for availability.
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita were devastating blows to the people of New Orleans and surrounding areas. It has also dealt a severe blow to the economy and we hope for a speedy recovery for all.
Arlen Ness has announced the release of Big Suckers for the '06 models. Final testing is under way. If you want to get one on order call us at 800-368-6217 or e-mail sales@directparts.com
Winter Storage Tips for your Bike
Are you putting your bike in storage soon? If so, consider taking the following steps to help protect your ride.
Change all fluids.
Check tire pressures
Use a gas stabilizer like Stabil and follow the directions. If you don't we suggest starting and running the bike several times over the winter.
If your battery is not a sealed type, remove it and connect a battery tender. If it is a sealed type like late OEM batteries you can plug them into the tender without removal. We do not recommend a trickle charger as they will cause boil off and can destroy the battery.
If you have a lift, we recommend putting your bike on it. We have been told that using a sheet of plywood with a carpet over it blocks moisture from coming up through the floor.
Use a breathable cover to keep dust and debris off.

Yamaha is plenty proud of its new 2006 Road Liner and the testers seemed impressed also. Whether you ride an H-D, Custom, Metric Cruiser or whatever the competition is good for our industry. If you get complacent, you are going to get passed by pretty quickly.
