I started out on dirt bikes about 50 years ago. I've crashed enough to know the value of protective gear, mostly on the dirt, but a few times on asphalt. I fall strongly into the better safe than sorry column. At the same time, I strongly support your freedom to wear or not wear whatever you choose. We're all different.

Feels strange to me without gloves.

Default Common Problem

Ugh.
I was all happy having recently decided to stop wearing gloves because it feels so much better without them on.
Now after the lecture and especially the gross photos you have ruined my brief happiness with all your evidence and common sense.
Part of the problem is I like the look of traditional Harley stock grips which are pretty fat and slippery with gloves on.
I have tried gel sport bike grips, British "football" grips and nothing felt as right as stock grips and NO gloves.
I didn't ride with gloves back when I started in the early 60s and every so often I ditch them for the same reason but after a while start wearing them because of common sense.
I hate common sense sometimes.

Even my wife wears gloves, and she rides on the back.

I always wear them. Fingerless until it gets cold, Elkskin untill it gets really freaking numb cold, and then heavy winter gloves. I agree....I don't like the feel of the heavy ones either. Last resort.

Gloves are a MUST.

If you fall what is the first thing you do? Reach down with your hands. The Palm of your hand is highly worth protecting if you don't want a crippled hand. My wife and I always wear gloves when riding. I do wear fingerless gloves in the hot summer days but always have protection on my hands.

Plus gloves have a lot of other beneficial properties. They allow you to maintain a strong grip with out needing a death grip. Don't believe just try water skiing with and without gloves! I learned the value of them as a teenager. Working with tools, climbing a ladder, driving, skiiing, riding motorcycles, you name it gloves are a plus in many ways.

Although I normally always wear gloves, this thread got me thinking. As a result, I just ordered a pair of these. I don’t ever want my hands to look like ground beef.

Same for me. Always wear gloves, eye protection and boots. Fingerless gloves in warm weather.

Always gloves for me. I'd feel semi naked without them.

If you are concerned about feel, then the Lee Parks Deer Tours gloves are superb. And very strong for a thin glove.

Always boots, jacket, FF helmet and kevlar jeans for me as well. But I've kind of grown fond of my skin and don't really want to have to regrow large chunks of it.
