H-D discontinues bikes because they don't sell enough of the models of certain bikes for a few years. I got a 07 wide glide, Hear H-D is gonna discontinue them for 08. Sure glad I got one before they quit making them.Mine won't be for sale ever.
EPA is also making H-D do a lot of major changes to their bikes. H-D hands are tied. This is another reason yer hearing about H-D coming out with water cooled bikes on more models.
I read somewhere where resale value on discontinued models (not sure if the article was refering to cars or motorcycles) go through cycles. First they drop, then there seems to be renewed interest after a while, which drives the prices up, followed by a drop then it stabilizes. What was unclear to me was the time span involved. I know it is not much help, but it does illustrate that at some point it'll be good to sell.
Hmmmm they discontiuned the FXSTC in 1999.So 8 years later I payed 17K for a 2007.A 1999 FXSTC still sells for around 12-13K. What ya think? I doubt it seriously that it hurts or helps the prices becuase HD keeps bringing them back out of retirement.

Chrome sells, skulls sell, performance improvements sell. I think the trick is to not build yourself a wooden shoe and then hope that some Dutch boy will come along in a few years and buy it.
