I have a 2009 super glide. About a min after I start my bike the starter wants to start kicking back out like its trying to start my bike while its running its sounds horrible. So I will shut it off. Now if I leave the run switch on and turn the switch on the tank back to the on postion it will try to start it self without touching the starter button. If I turn the run switch off it wont try and start. Ive changed my starter and starter relay and checked my switches on the handle bars. Im at a lose. And ideas before I take it to a shop. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you
Sounds like your compensator is kicking back. My dad's 09 super glide is starting to do that when starting as well. As far as I know there is no permanent fix. Just bandaids. Harley really screwed its customers with those compensators.
How often do you change the primary fluid and with what?
If you take your bike and run it up to say 3000 in low and let off, does it bang? If so it may be what the compensator crew are referring to. However, been numerous people actually have your problem of the starter kicking in.
Usually because someone did a sorry job of replacing the handle bars. Replace the start switch and run the small wire down to the starter to make sure it is not touching anywhere. Your problem will go away. And be real careful. Leaving that bike in gear and walking away and no telling when it could start and go a few feet hurting someone.
