Hey all!
I just retired from the Army, and as my "gift", I have decided I am finally getting myself a H-D.

This is where I need some guidance from everyone that has "been there-done that".

I will be riding most everyday to work, so this will be my "primary" mode of transportation.
The bikes that I have narrowed down to are: Street Bob, FXD and the Night Train (in no particular order).

My ride will be around 90 miles daily on mainly Secondary (Texas FMs) rds and about 15miles on a HWY. Some of the roads are bumpy, but not "tore up" so to speak, just general Texas rds. Lots of curves and a few railroad tracks to cross.

My bike back ground is dirt (mainly motocross) so this will be my first street bike.

First--congratulations on your retirement; I retired in`93 and remember that day well. I cannot offer much more than what has already been stated only my experience and maybe put some perspective on your choices. My commute is 123 miles one way if I take the highways and 112 taking the secondary roads. Most of the ride is in Northern Virginia traffic --I ride a sportster and feel very comfortable.

Congrats on your retirement and thanks for serving.

Do yourself a favor. This is a fairly large expense...go rent a couple of diffeent bikes and put a 100 or 200 miles on each one. It might seem expensive,,,but if you buy a bike you don't like you will either trade it in (and lose money) or just not ride it. Rent a few....have a blast.
