Hello all, it’s been awhile since I posted and my post count wasn’t that great at the time but I am back.
I guess I am a re-newbie……last May I was in a serious accident when I was making a left turn. I was stopped, and to make a real long story short, a fellow coming from the other direction had locked up his brakes probably doing 75mph. Being on a cambered section of road sloping towards me. He slide down the camber hitting me head on.
It totaled out my 2016 Electra-Glide with $28,500.00 worth of damage. For me, it crushed both my wrists, broke my back, several broken ribs, cuts to the bone on my legs, black and blue everywhere and a lot of small cuts requiring some clamps or stitches.
I was wearing a helmet, leather jacket, H-D boots & gloves. I imagine without that I may have not made it.
I was in the ICU for2 weeks. After my Hospital time I was transferred to a Rehab facility. I was unable to walk and was told I would never walk again. I had absolutely no use of my hands as well. As miracles do happen, the rehab center had me walking again in 3 and a half months. Not the best but I was getting around. I still had the upper body cast on and I wore that for over 6 months. My use of my hands were minimal but I could get by with most I needed to do.
Even though I had made these recoveries I was also told by my Family, Wrist and Back Doctors that I would never be able to ride again so I sold my Low Rider S.
After 53 years of riding I would almost cry when seeing another bike or reading articles about everybody’s rides and adventures in my HOG Magazine.
Fast forward to 2weeks ago……… I had felt I was able to ride again, so I went by the local Dealer and took a test ride on a new 2018 Softail Street Bob. Wow, just like I had ridden yesterday and I was off.
After several hours of negotiations I was on my way home on my brand new Wicked Red/Twisted Cherry Street Bob!
My abilities to ride very far distances are for now, limited, but I am still loving the ride just like I always have, well, maybe more since Doctors had me convinced I would never be able to ride again!
Praise the Lord, Marty you are making one whale of a come back. You are showing your Doctors and Family what you are really made of now. Keep on keeping on and don't stop.
Welcome back. Just goes to show that if the mind and spirit are willing...
Hear all the time about people proving doctors and others wrong. Way to have that
determination and drive to do just that. Keep us informed on your progress.
