Default Painter/Powders - Harley Gloss Black Trademarked?

Is the Harley Gloss Black color trademarked?

If you get power or paint in gloss black is it the same as Harley's?

I was able to get a rattle can of HD’s vivid black color made by a local automotive paint store to do some touch ups so it can’t be under lock and key. I also had some powder coating done and the shop I went to was able to match the HD satin black (handlebar switch housings). They also powdercoated a bunch of other parts in their “wet bike black” that matched HD’s gloss black (like the frame) perfectly. Owner of the shop is a harley rider so maybe that has something to do with how well his products match the factory colors.

Always like to give a positive review for Absolute Powder Coating in St Mary’s, PA. They have always taken care of me and do great work with a quick turn around.

Do you mean "vivid black"? I had my Softail painted from a blue to black and all I told the painter was "vivid black" and it came out as vivid a black as I could have wanted.

I know the MoCo will not give out the paint codes for the CVO bikes (for a couple of years for sure) but I think the Vivid Black is available. For sure you could get your painter to color match.

I'm taking parts to the powder coater this week. He said he has the exact match for the harley gloss black powder coat, so I don't know if this is an actual harley powder or what.

First of all..... The MOCO can shove their trademark bullsheet right up their a$$!.
When I wanted to color match my tour pack, I couldn't get a paint code to save my life. I pulled my fender, took it to the paint supply shop and they used their digital color spectrometer gun and gave me a paint code in a few seconds. If Harley thinks they can trademark or patent a "COLOR", they are more retarded than when they thought they could patent a sound.
So no, if you can match or replicate ANY black the MOCO has put on a part..... Kudos, and enjoy! The mothership can't say or do a thing.

As per the post just above me, they can basically take a snapshot of your tins, or whatever, and plug into the computer and it will spit out the formula for that color. We use one in our shop every day.

yes, you can trademark a color. UPS has trademarked the specific shade of brown they paint their trucks. but all that means is that it prevents another company which provides the same service from painting their vehicles that color.

might want to make sure you know what you're talking about before you go calling people "retarded."
