Addressing the op’s question...no way do I feel the need to wear my vest all the time. It’s a great piece when conditions are right for it, but its not going on when I’m riding in 90F temps.
I wear a Fox Creek Vintage Vest custom made from elk skin. I was amazed at how rapidly they created it and how superb it is. Short waits are a great perk!
If I'm not wearing a jacket I'm wearing a vest regardless of temperature. For a significant trip it's mesh jacket in summer...Around town in heat a leather vest. Tshirt only is asking for it.
I might buy a leather vest this summer, for hot weather. I usually wear a mesh jacket, but sometimes I like to wear just a shirt. A vest gives me pockets, but still can enjoy short sleeves.
I dont CCW, but I might start. It would be nice for that. I wont be putting any patches on, because Im not a real biker.
