Default Vests

I have 3 vests, one I wear with the riding club, one I wear with the HOG group and one I just wear at different times. My question is, do any of you wear your vest all the time? I see MC's wearing them every where and kind of weather. I understand support, but I can't stand it when it's over 75 degrees. Anyone else feel this way? I like to enjoy the ride, not feel like I am going to melt.

Just wondering.

I don't own a vest and don't belong to any groups. I've considered getting a denim or canvas (Carhartt-like) vest for protection reasons but I have no desire to own a leather one, much less have any affiliation that dictates that I wear one when I ride. Just my preference and opinion.

I like my leather vests when it is cool, but not cold enough for a coat. I agree with you that I don't want to belong to any group that tells me what I have to wear.

I have one that I wear 75% of the time. When it's hot, I have the "chain extenders" to let more air in. They also make it bigger for my jacket. If it's cool, I take them off.

I don't remember ever seeing it written in the rules of any kind of riding club, be it HOG or otherwise where you have to wear a certain vest. If it's too warm and you don't feel like wearing one, then don't, simple as that! Everyone in the riding clubs you belong to know who you are.

As for MC's, each club has a specific set of rules that they adhere to. It is their business!

Me, I wear them as a between. Between too warm and too cold. Or since they are the zip up style, I may forgo a tee shirt and just wear the vest. (as long as my girls behave)

Most MC's want you to wear them anytime you're on the bike. Subject to certain conditions of course. But it varies between clubs.

The comments regarding MC's are pretty much correct, depending upon the club. If for no other reason, this would be a good one for not joining an MC...not to be confused with an RC! I'm beyond the age where mommy or daddy need to dress me, I'll be damned if I afford anybody else that privilege!

Back to the original question...I believe that vests do have a general purpose, and for me it's a method of maintaining my comfort level while riding. In general, I don't wear a vest...but I have. I have a denim Levi jacket which I converted into a vest many years ago, it's sized to fit over my leather jackets, and I use it when I have things to carry on my person...Kinda like a personal Scottie Vest [SIC?]
