screw up at 90 and someones dead.

So, what you're telling me is you're okay with someone running 70-75 with your kids in the car but not 90?

You honestly think 10-15 mph is going to make a difference? I assure you someone flipping a car at 70-75 isn't going to come out of that situation any better than someone running 85-90.

I am the farthest thing from a safty ****
No, actually you're worse. You're a damn tree hugger (according to your link to your website http://www.ace-ga.com/index.html and I quote
"The mission of Augusta Conservation Education is to inform the public of the importance of caring for our earth and all of its natural resources. We do this by performing conservation education shows. These demonstrations emphasize the importance of Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse.)

... that's right below a safety ****.

I'll bet people like you hate those of us that drive H2's also....

[]
EVERYONE hates people that drive H2s.

They usually wear gold chains and are named Guido.

Being a tree hugger has nothing to do with it.

I agree with Mark on one point....the whole holier than thou attitude is annoying.....everyone...and I mean EVERYONE has gone faster than they intended at one time or another. Hell I run the interstates so much I can be running 90 and it feels like 50....until I look down at the speedo.

I don't agree with Mark on his apparent intense hatred of trees.

Nobody asked if you have other tickets on your record?? In GA, unless the laws have changed in the last year or so, "repeat offenders" get jacked higher and higher for every ticket.

$700 sucks the big one but I'm betting its not so far out of the realm if the whole story be told...........

The Whole story has been told. I didn't say I was in a construction zone, because I wasn't. The facts are all there. Some people here choose to read them and some don't.

My brother (the LEO father of the children) was the first person I called when I found out how much the fine was. He's the one that gave me the advice to ask if I could attend a class to get the fine reduced or dropped. He's also offered to pay the fine since he thinks I wouldn't have received it IF the kids weren't in the car in the first place. He didn't chastise me, only said he was sorry.

I am not letting him pay the fine.

And no, I didn't call him up whining about the fine and how his kids caused it. I wanted him to hear about from me versus someone else. If I hadn't told him, he would consider that lying. Lying is far worse to him than 90 in a 70 with his kids in the back. If I'm lying, then I can't be trusted whereas, if I make a mistake and own up to it, then I just made a bad choice.

Yes the children were properly fastened in child safety seats.

He also routinely drives that stretch of interstate and several others where if you're in the left lane and going less than the speed limit (sometimes 10 over) you are in more danger than if you're driving 90.

The citation states that I was stopped at mile marker 71 (not 70 as previously stated) within Tift County. If that's not within city limits, then I'm sorry for mistating that fact. The Officer did tell me that I was lucky he didn't stop me a mile down the road, where it drops to 65, so I guess the person that said the speed limit in Tifton, GA was 65 or 55 was right.

I also have not received a speeding fine or been at fault in a motor vehicle accident in the past 17 years.

I could say that I am shocked by how many people have come out with the 'holier than thou' attitude, but I won't because I am not. Like I've said before in my Sturgis post, I've been in this Internet business for years and know how people are going to act. I fully expected the backlash.

For those of you that are calling me a whiner, read the thread again. If you still think that's what I'm doing, then you're probably a whiner yourself.

For those of you that are chastising me and want to whip me with a wet noodle, ok I can handle that. Did I make a mistake? Yes, I did. In the eyes of the law (and some of you) I did something wrong and am willing to accept those consequences. Remember, I could have not posted this at all! In my opinion, though $700 is a little steep for the infraction.

But before you go spouting a bunch of judgemental crap about how I shouldn'd ever be allowed to see those children again, reconsider your words. You have no knowledge of my family's dynamics or my brother's habits and stance on vehicle safety. You also didn't read the entire post and should go over it again so you don't look like a fool the next time you speak.

I'll do my best to keep everyone posted. As of yet, I have not received a formal notice of the fine, only the citation. I have been told that most citations from the GHP take 10 days to reach the county.

Circumstances aside; the more I think abouta 5 year oldchildand 10 month oldinfant being in a vehicle going 90 mph, the more I find the situation to beinexcusable. If the father of said children is in fact LE, then I would hope that he too would be nothing short of outraged. He entrusted you with the care and well being of his kids. And I would bet that he didn't think that would involve their being in a motor vehicle doing 90 down the highway.
You know I respect and value your opinion. However, on this one, we are not going to see eye to eye. There are several circumstances where 90 mph is safer than 70.

Bad choice, maybe. Inexusable, hardly.

This ones gona play out like an oil thread with two sides. Instead of AMSOIL vs the world, I think this one will be fathers vs non fathers, or fathers vs irresposible dooshes.

I am not holier than thou, speed all the time, have driven after drinkin, and done all kinds of stupid crap EXCEPT when little kids are trusted in my care. Big difference and I'm glad I didn't send 5 bucks to this guy to go to Sturgis.
Driving when drinking is endangering lots of people entrusted in your care. Yes, there is a big difference. In the case of driving after drinking you are impaired! If you really think that driving while impaired is less worse than speeding with two children in the car, then you're the irresposible *****!

Oh, and the $5 would've given you something in return. Like I've said before, read the entire posts before you go making yourself look like a fool.

I agree, Mike. We more than likely won't see eye to eye on this one. Much like yourself, I've voiced my opinion toward same. But in doing such, don't mistake my position on this singular matterfor my having lostmy respect for you in kind. I'll always speak my mind toward the issue(s) before me. Seldom is it personal. Until such time that folks elect it to be. One last thing; drive safely out there.

Fraid in my opinion you got what was deserved, although $400 seems more in order that $900. Why do you need to go 90? 60 behind a few trucks just until a nearby exit is no good reason to hit 90 and pass them.
I have no problem going 60 behind some trucks until I come to the exit I need to get off at. The problem is that I would've had to slow to less than that to allow them to pass so I could get behind them in the first place. 55 in the left lane on that part of i-75 is suicide.

dynamike74 the only reason i could think of for such a high fine is a construction zone. You may want to check with a liar..ah make that a lawyer about the actual wording, but i have had fines dropped substantially and no points on my DL by talking to the DA and pleading "guilty with explanation, no deposition needed, faulty speedometer." as for your last question about folks driving on the suspended list in tift county, lots. HTH and even though I have no plans on being GA anytime soon, thanx for the heads up

I'll not pass judgment since i have once upon a time driven I-75 and I-85 in GA for years, 90 mph at times can be an act of self preservation. Now to sit back and watch the show between those that think you're a bastage for driving that fast with little ones (that's between you and your brother), those that think the fines are thievery, and those that only skimmed your post and assume that you were weaving in and out of traffic with the kids strapped to your bumpers.

That last part's funny. True, but funny.

I went back and reread the Sturgis thread and it was similar to this one. You tirelessly defending your actions and looking dumber as you go.
